To wrap up our 2 round state title series, Saturday greeted us some welcome swell pulses for some contestable 2-3ft peaks, leading to a solid day of competition at 13th Beach.
The judges were delighted to cover multiple tight heats with competitors pushing each other with longer tubes and higher rolls.
The prized Open Mens division final turned in to an epic battle between State Titles 01 winner Nathan Clark, and club president Chris Watson. Nathan's multiple fluid combos all but sealed the final, if it wasn't for one huge carving reverse off the lip from Chris to nudge his higher wave score over the top, taking the win by just 0.07.
We awarded some new special prizes this time around, with Best Rookie awarded equally to Luke Palmer & Benjamin Lee Kong, and Highest Heat Total and Single Wave Score both awarded to Ben Roberts for his epic Open mens quarterfinal, including a 9.17 for a long tube to critical roll off the top. Nice one!
